Middletown - 01/26/13

Well we all had a great time in Middletown. Dinner was chili, tortellini salad, Caesar salad, and make-it-yourself loaded baked potatoes that rocked. Thanks for bringing stuff everyone, and thanks to Scott for the chili, and Noreen and Carol for all the prep work and cooking on-site.

Here is what I saw/heard of being played, please comment below to add to our played games list.

Eclipse, with Rise of the Ancients
Eclipse, with Rise of the Ancients, So nice we played it twice!
Android: Netrunner
Lords of Scotland
Railroad Tycoon
Suburbia
Seven Wonders
Taj Mahal
Police Precinct

I know there were a few (lot?) more games played, so speak up people! Next time, I will bring a clipboard and endeavor to keep better track, maybe even know who played what and who won! I want to get back to keeping track of stuff played in 2013...

Middletown session begins at 3PM tomorrow. I will be providing 2 pots of chili. If you want to bring a side that would accompany the chili that would be swell. Mike Groshorn has indicated that he will be bringing corn bread and a fruit salad.

Peace,
Scott

Gaming this Saturday in Middletown

Gang,

I hope to see a bunch of you this Saturday. After 2 misses we are back on this week. I made it to BGG.CON and played a few of the new releases from Essen. I am not sure any were great but a few were at least interesting. My favorite was Last Will. I also enjoyed both of the carnival/amusement park games that came out this year, Coney Island and DrumRoll. Also, I would like to announce there will be a New Year's Eve gaming party here as well. Mark your calendars. Kelly and I look forward to seeing everybody to ring in 2012.

We hope to see everyone at 3pm on Saturday and also on New Year's Eve.

Peace,

Scott

Just wanted to remind everyone that this months session is this Saturday in Middletown beginning at 11AM. We will have the pleasure of a number of special guests. The first guest is a published designer/game reviewer and a hoot to play games with ... Ted Cheatham. Some of his published games are Carpe Astra, Silk Roads and Captain Clueless. Ted is flying a few friends up with him from Charleston, WV. The friends scheduled to attend are Charlie Davis, Dave Gilligan and Travis Reynolds. If you haven't met this quartet you are in for a real treat. You will not meet a more fun, outgoing group then this posse from southern WV.

The special theme is Races: Through the Ages. We have selected a number of race games that will began in the distance past up the future. Some games selected but not limited to are :

Pre-civilization: Igel Argern or Billabong
Roman: Ave Caesar
Victorian: Around the World in 80 Days
SteamBoats: Mississippi Queen
Old West: Canyon/Grand Canyon or Pony Express
Modern Times:
Bicycle: Um Refenbreite
Animal: Really Nasty Horse Racing Game or Snow Tails

Middletown 1/31/2009

We had sixteen gamers make the trek to Middletown for some great gaming:

  • Scott Fisher
  • David Fair
  • Tom McCorry
  • Bryan Snyder
  • Noreen Fair
  • John Weber
  • Rick Pasquale
  • Linda Pasquale
  • Leslie Barkley
  • Lige Carpenter
  • Brian Carpenter
  • Karl Musser
  • Ben Jones
  • Robert (Bob) Jones
  • Corwin Fair
  • Andrew Fair
Another great night of gaming that welcomed two new persons to our game night. I hope everyone met and had an opportunity to welcome Brian and Lige Carpenter to our group in Middletown. We look forward to seeing them again in the future.

This game night was also a birthday celebration for Noreen. Happy Birthday! We enjoyed a ham, scalloped potatoes, many vegetables and desserts! Now on to the gaming!

A quick rundown follows:

A few games of Tichu were played. The first game pitted the Scott & Noreen Vs. Linda & Leslie. The score ended with a victory for Scott & Noreen winning 1030 to 170. Another game pitted Rick & Linda Vs. Noreen & Lige. This game ended in victory for Rick & Linda 1045 to 555.

A couple of games of Ticket to Ride were played. The first was the original game of TtR with the 1910 expansion. This game was played by Karl (85), Scott (81), Noreen (116), Linda (103) and Leslie (157) getting the win.

TtR:Nordic Countries was played by Leslie (87), John (63) and Bob (115) taking the victory. Bob reported that he "hosed" the others often! Nice victory.

We played a card game that I picked up at Essen call Mow. It is similar to Take Six but with a cow theme. The object of this game is not get stuck picking up flies. The game was played by Karl (8), Leslie (36), Noreen (6), Rick (8), Linda (10) and getting the victory was Scott (5). The game is designed for maximum of 5 so we may have not gotten the best example of play. It was OK but I enjoy Take Six more.

A very good game of Alhambra was played. I really enjoy this game and will always join a game if it is available. The game was played by Scott (107), Leslie (86), Noreen (80) and getting the win was Karl (114).

The new Zoch game, from Reiner Knizia, Sushizock in Gockelwok was enjoyed by Noreen (7), Rick (4), Lige (1) and Linda (4). I am not sure if the object is to get points or have low score so I am not sure who was the winner. Anybody??? (High score wins - Ed.)

A very competitive game of San Juan was played by Bob (31), John (30) and Leslie (25).

Another new game that was released at Essen that got played was Fast Flowing Forest Fellers. The game was played by Lige (4th place), Linda (3rd), Noreen (2nd) and Rick winning this racing game of log floating.

Tom, David, Brian Carpenter and Bryan Snyder played a game of Tichu.

Others played: Battlestar Galactica (Cylons Tom and Scott won), Steam over Holland, and Dominion.

Middletown March 29, 2008

This is a recap of the GCOM Middletown session held on March 29, 2008. This is the first session that has been held with the new day and time of the last Saturday of the month at 3PM. It was very well attended so I think the Saturday experiment may have been a good idea.

Attendees:

  • Scott Fisher (host)
  • David Fair (co-host)
  • Noreen Fair
  • Judy Trent
  • Scott Fox
  • Scott Percival
  • Liz Percival
  • Carly Fisher
  • Calvin Fisher
  • Rick Pasquale
  • Linda Pasquale
  • John Weber
  • Bryan Snyder
  • Jason Cheng
  • Steve Lollis
  • Leslie Barkley
  • Helen Powell
  • Kayla Trent
Games Played:
R-Eco (David Fair, John Weber, Bryan Snyder, Jason Cheng and Scott Fisher)
Show Manager (David Fair, John Weber, Bryan Snyder, Jason Cheng, Scott Fisher and Steve Lollis)
Bang (Leslie Barkley, Liz and Scott Percival, Scott Fox, Judy Trent and Helen Powell)
Coyote (David Fair, John Weber, Bryan Snyder, Jason Cheng, Steve Lollis and Scott Fisher)
Pacific Typhoon X2 (Game #1 Liz Percival, Leslie Barkley, Scott Fox, Steve Lollis and Scott Fisher) & (Game #2 Calvin Fisher, Leslie Barkley, Scott Fox, Steve Lollis and Scott Fisher)
Roads & Boats (Judy Trent, Scott Fox, David Fair and Scott Percival)
Imperial (John Weber, Bryan Snyder and Helen Powell)
San Juan (Bryan Snyder and Helen Powell)
How Ruck! (Jason Cheng and David Fair)
Ticket to Ride (1910 version of tickets) (Helen Powell, Steve Lollis, Scott Fisher and Bryan Snyder)
Race for the Galaxy (Jason Cheng, Scott Fisher, David Fair and Helen Powell)
Tichu X2 (Game #1 Rick and Linda Pasquale vs. Liz Pervical and Noreen Fair) (Game #2 Calvin Fisher and Carly Fisher vs. Noreen Fair and Leslie Barkley)

The first game of the evening was R-Eco from Z-Man Games. Jason continues his winning streak at this game with the final scores being David (-2), John (9), Bryan (3), Scott (7) and Jason (12). I also broke my streak of finishing last in every game I had played previously. :)

The next game was Show Manager. We (or maybe I should say I) chose this game because Jason said he does not usually win at it. Poor Jason oh well but he was correct because again he did not win it! The final score was David 54, Scott 45, Bryan 36, John 29 (tie break with $1 remaining), Jason 29 and Steve 27. David claimed about a 70% win rate at this game which I have to believe since he has won most of the games I have played with him.

Bang was brought to the table since six of us were in the middle of Show Manager and a few more gamers had arrived. In this game the sheriff was Scott Fox and fittingly it was Judy Trent who killed him. I am sure she has had that inclination before this game? This game was new to Leslie Barkley and Liz Percval.

The next game for the Show Manager table was Coyote. This was my first time with the optional rules. These rules are add a another card to players head band, reverse the order and agree to with the prior guess. I won the game with only 1 coyote marker when David Jason received his 3rd and final marker.

A shuffling of the players happened at this time since the Bang and the Coyote game both had now ended.

The following description was provided for me by David since he was involved in the Roads and Boats game.

Roads and Boats: Played on the most basic 4-player map, since it had been so long since Scott, Judy or I had played, and it was Jason's first time. Scott and Judy got off to a fast start, getting a raft factory and a paper mill down faster than Jason and I. I waited until Jason built the raft factory, then used it to quick advantage. Judy ended up wasting a bit of space on a clay pit and stone factory that she later wished she had used for other things. I waited too long to build my oil rig to get coal/fuel, but once I did my coin production started in earnest. Jason seemed to have a good coin and gold production going, only to have it stolen by Judy's Pirate Ship. Scott pointed out that i am ultimately responsible for Judy's pirate ways, having stolen her iron, coal, and then her brick to block her out of the mine she had built. With three mines, and no one encroaching, I set about making mucho paper and converting that and coin into stocks. With my stock exchange pumping out one stock each turn, it became hard to catch me. In the end, the scores were (Points from Stock, Points from Coins, Points from Gold, Points from Bricks): Dave (727=600+80+10+37), Jason (379=240+40+50+49), Judy (334=120+80+90+44), Scott (322=240+40+40+2). A great long and meaty game.

While R&B was going on the first of two games of Pacific Typhoon were played. The first game was won by the host (that would be me)! The final score was Scott 43, Steve 30, Leslie 23, Liz 22 and Scott Fox 20. The second game Liz decided it was time for some Tichu and since Calvin had arrived he replaced her. This did not bode well for me since he is a shark at the precursor for this game Atlantic Storm and in fact has won the championship at PrezCon. In the end I did in fact win again this time the score was as follows: Scott 38, Leslie 36, Calvin 33, Scott Fox 24 and Steve 20. Scott Fox really enjoyed this game and said it is on his "to buy" list. Steve Lollis had pre-ordered this game from GMT. I later found out that he had ordered 2 copies and was kind enough to give me a copy. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! If you have not played either of these games I recommend give them a try. These are definitely in my Top 10 of all games.

The first game of Tichu was played with Rick and Linda vs. Noreen and Liz. I did not get any information about the game other than the final score of Rick/Linda 1060 and Liz/Noreen 340.

The second game involved Cal and Carly vs. Leslie and Noreen. The final score was Cal and Carly 1000 vs. Leslie and Noreen 600.

Imperial was a closely contested game with the score being John 187, Bryan 183 and Leslie Helen 178. Here is some commentary provided by John, "I was about to end the game with France but a quick calculation suggested Bryan was in position to win so I delayed advancing France on the rondel so that 2 other countries (Italy and Germany) could catch up." Good calculation John since that provided you with a narrow win!

A couple of games that were played head to head. The first between David and Jason was How Ruck! or Heave Oh!. Jason was victorious with a score of 3 to 1. The next game was San Juan between Helen and Bryan. The final score was very tight with Bryan edging Helen by a score of 26 to 25. Wow a very tight score.

Ticket to Ride: USA 1910 was a tight game as well. This is the first time that I have played this version with the new tickets. I won with a score of 130, Helen 116, Steve 90 and Bryan 70. The difference was I had the 15 point bonus for most tickets completed.

The last game of this session was Race for the Galaxy. This is only my second playing but I really enjoyed it again and can see why this game is so popular. I tried to rush the finish by building to 12 as quickly as possible. I thought I might be able to "steal" a victory before others could get their engines running. I was close but not quite over the top. The final score was Jason 23, David 19, Scott 18 and Helen 12. At one point I could have "developed" a bonus card that would have provided me enough points to win (though I am not sure I could have gotten to 12 at the same point in the game).

A great session after a couple of canceled sessions. I hope all will join in the next scheduled session which is April 26. See ya then!!!

Changes Coming in 2008

A few things to note in the coming year:

  1. GCOM-Middletown is changing nights... Starting in January, GCOM-Middletown is moving to Saturdays. Sessions will happen on the last Saturday of the Month: Jan 26, Feb 23, Mar 29, Apr 26, May 31, Jun 28, Jul 26, Aug 25, Sep 27, Oct 25, Nov 29, Dec 27 -- mark your calendars now!
  2. GCOM-Damascus is returning to a schedule of "all Fridays"... Now that we won't be making the road trip to Middletown on the last Friday, we will resume having game night on those Fridays at Damascus.
  3. We have now been at the Damascus Community Center for 10 months, and by-and-large, things have gone very well. Having Game Night at the Center has allowed us to grow without concerns for space, parking, etc. Our agreement with the Center was never really formalized, and as you all know, we are, for the most part, an off-the-books operation for them. In order to make sure that our relationship with the Center continues to be beneficial for both sides, the following things need to be made known:
    • Now that we are using the Classroom, rather than the Art Room, we need to put the tables back in their U-formation and stack the chairs back up before we leave. It would be nice if all of the cleanup was not left for the people who are the last to leave on any given night.
    • Recreation facilities. If we would like to use other parts of the center (The ping-pong tables, the pool tables, etc.) then we are going to need to have a more formal setup with the center. This would involve getting all of our regular attendees a membership badge for Montgomery County Recreational Facilities (if you already have one, great, if not, we can get you one. If you are not from Montgomery County, we can still get one for you). If we don't wish to do that, it's OK with them, they just need us to restrict our use of the other rooms (this is due to insurance & liability concerns). Please feel free to discuss this, but as I don't see much use of those parts of the center these days anyway, I am likely to say that we don't want to deal with the hassle or (possible) expense. Please correct me if I am wrong.
    • The center has asked that any kids stay with us in the Classroom, or that some of us stay with them in the Conference room. I think it would be best if we tried to move ourselves in with the kids rather than vice-versa, as the TV in our room is less accessible. Most of the time that they are not playing games with us, the kids spend
watching TV or playing video games, but we do need to make sure they are respectful of the center we are using as guests. There are a couple small tables in there suitable for 4-player card games, and the large table is great for larger-space games like Railroad Tycoon or even Agricola. I don't want this to become any one person's burden, so it would help if everyone stayed aware and occasionally volunteers to have a game in there. That room has the nicest chairs, too!
    • Parking... They have asked that we not use the handicapped spots in front of the building without an appropriate sticker or tag. I do this more than the rest of you, usually because I am bringing in games, but I wanted to make you aware of it. The existence of our shiny new game cabinet should help with the amount of game-toting-in, in any case.
Finally, there one thing I think it would be nice to implement, but that I (and Noreen) cannot provide all on our own, so I am looking for help from the rest of you.... Refreshments: I always find game night more enjoyable with a soda (or three) and something to snack on... Now that we have some on-site storage we can carry-over snacks and drinks from week-to-week. Please help us out by occasionally bringing snacks and/or sodas to share with the group and we will keep them in the cabinet until they run out. As supplies get low, I may remind people that we are in need of resupplying the cabinet. Please remember that everything that will be there is something that someone brought, so if you partake, please provide as well.

In fact, with this last item, there really is no reason to wait, so I will be bringing some things to share tomorrow night, please feel free to do so as well. Keep in mind that it is better to have small, single-serving bags/cans/bottles/packages rather than larger containers that, while they may be lower in price, have more danger of their contents going stale/flat.

Hope you all have a great holiday season, and we look forward to more great gaming together in the future.

Middletown 11/30/07

Eleven gamers made the trek, over hill and over dale, to the Mecca of Meeples in Middletown, the Cradle of Cardboard, the Domain of Dice, the... I'll stop now... In attendance:

  • Scott Fisher
  • David Fair
  • John Weber
  • Raphael Lehrer
  • Tom McCorry
  • Katherine McCorry
  • Marshall Miller
  • Jason Cheng
  • Bryan Snyder
  • Karl Musser
  • Kathy Hallahan
We started out the night with a game of Martin Wallace's newest economic game, Brass. This is a meaty game that offers a lot to folks brave enough to play it a second time. It is very confusing and hard to figure out in your first play, but it gets much better after that. John came 4th in this game, his first play, scoring 101 points. Scott was next (also his first play) with 112, then veterans Tom (114) and David (131). See what I mean about a little experience?

Meanwhile, some other games got underway... In no particular order: Raphael, Jason, Bryan, and Marshall played St. Petersburg (it was Jason's inaugural game). Scores were 94-Raphael, 86-Jason, 58-Marshall, 50-Bryan.

Katherine, Karl, and Kathy played Thurn & Taxis, developing postal systems across ancient Germany. Kathy was first with 26, followed by Katherine with 20, and Karl with 17.

Showmanager is one of my favorite games, but it got played without me this night, as Kathy, Karl, Marshall, Bryan, Jason, and John all competed to make the best of the actors who showed up in cattle calls for their broadway shows. Kathy posted another win with 43 points, followed by Jason-41, Marshall-36, John-34, Karl-34, and Bryan-32.

Uptown is a cute little essentially abstract game by Kory Heath that has been getting a bit of play of late. Tonight, Jason won, followed by Karl, Kathy, John, and Marshall.

There were 2 games of Race for the Galaxy, one with Jason, Bryan, and Marshall, and one with Jason, John, and Marshall. In game A, Marshall won with a score of 26 (the lowest winning score I have seen), followed by Jason-23, and Bryan-20. In game 2, Jason-39 won, followed by John-27, and Marshall-24.

We had a 5-player game of Agricola end at about this point. We played with the K-Deck, the deck that breaks the rules more than any other, despite having 2 new players in the game. Katherine (new) came 5th with 24, and Tom was 4th with 30. Next was Scott with 31, then Raphael (new) with 38. David came first with 48.

We ended the night with a pair of filler card games... Holzworm and Ziegen Kriegen. We aren't sure we got the rules right for Holzwurm, but in the other game, Scott was last with 6 points, followed by Jason with 9, Marshall with 22, and David & John tied for the win with 25.

A great night of gaming... See you next month!

The evening started with Ben, Noah, Calvin, and Scott playing The Nacho Incident, a funny take on smuggling Mexican food into Canadia (Yes, Canadia). Scott won, followed by Calvin, Noah, and Ben.

Followed this up with a big game of Verflixxt! (That's Life!) with the following scores: Katherine 24, Calvin 19, Ben 5, Carly 1, Noah -1, Scott -17.

Pulled out the new Essen release, Wabash Cannonball, and David, Jason, Katherine, and Noreen played. An interesting game that plays quite quickly. Very enjoyable. David won with $108, followed by Jason $67, Katherine $64, and Noreen $64.

Cuba will be the "Hot New Essen Game" at EuroQuest, and Tom, John, Marshall, Steve, and Phil played. John managed the win with 84 points, followed by Tom with 80, Marshall with 73, Phil with 72, and Steve with 71. No word on what the game is like or how to play, so you may have to come to EQ to try it out!

Scott taught another new Essen release, League of Six, to Dave, Marshall, and Jason. The end game bonuses proved to be key for Scott as he won with 84 points, followed by David with 71, Jason with 69, and Marshall with 60.

Ming Dynasty is another new Essen release.
In the middle of the 14th Century the Chinese people succeeded to free themselves from the rule of the Mongols. With the accession to the throne of emperor Tai-Tsu they developed a rising country: China. Each player takes the role of an imperial prince and tries to gain influence with his family members at the growth of the Chinese people during the Ming dynasty. Place your fellow men securely into the 6 Chinese provinces, which are divided each into 3 prefectures. In order where your own family members get majorities into the administration you will be recompensed during the election rounds with gifts from the emperor.
The game was won by Phil 140, followed by Tom 133, Katherine 112, and John 94.

Oregon plays similarly to the older title, Hacienda, but is praised for having a more elegant and intuitive scoring, as well as more things going on in the actual gameplay. Three players joined together to tame the new western frontier, Jason scored 77, followed by Scott with 70, and Marshall with 68.

See you next week at GCOM-Damascus!

Middletown 08/31/07

Seventeen gamers gathered in Middletown for the best gaming they could find... This summary is going to be rather abbreviated, both because I am late, and because I have another one to write...

In attendance:

  • Scott & Carly Fisher
  • Scott Fox & Judy & Kayla Trent
  • David, Noreen, Corwin & Andrew Fair
  • Bryan Snyder
  • Jason Cheng
  • John Weber
  • Tom McCorry
  • Wade Hyatt
  • Raphael Lehrer
  • Marshall Miller
  • Steve Lollis
First was a 6 player game of Metro. Bryan was able to leave a pawn on until late, and score well with it to secure his win (36 points) over Scott Fox (35), Kayla (25), Judy (23), Jason (21), and Carly (18).

The new game Cash-A-Catch was next, with Tom (the only player who had played before) winning (112) over Scott Fisher (75), newcomer Wade Hyatt (73) and John Weber (53).

Noreen managed another Can't Stop victory, this time in a game with 5 players. Her opponents were Jason, Kayla, Carly, and Bryan.

Raphael, David, Judy, and Scott Fox headed to Thebes next, to play the new, and very popular, Queen game. Dave was the only experienced player, but it did little to help him as Scott and Judy tied for the win with 59 points each. Dave (52) settled for third, and Raphael (48) played cleanup.

Off to the races with Royal Turf. Bryan was a shrewd bettor and managed to win with a tidy sum ($2,950), followed by Jason ($2,350), Carly ($2,000), and Marshall ($500).

The Thebes crowd next played Phoenicia, another new game, this time based on Outpost, but a bit quicker... Raphael won (40) as the others learned the game. David (31) came in second, Judy (30) third, and Fox (29) fourth. At least it was close among the newbies...

A 5-player game of Imperial was next, with John earing 130 for the victory, followed by Tom (104), Steve (103), Scott Fisher (100) and Wade (70).

Go Read Bear! the players cried in Honeybears. Raphael won with 119, followed by John (1010, Jason (95), Tom (94), and Scott Fisher (74).

Finally, a 4-player game of ShowManager. I have never played with less than six, and did not realize that you use dummy players... Interesting. Jason (51) managed the win, followed by Tom (41), Scott Fisher (40), John (37), and Thing 1 & Thing 2 (27 & 24).

See you next month!

Middletown 07/27/07

I am guest-posting for Scott as his schedule is somewhat chaotic at the moment... We had a nice crowd, including several regulars and a few first-timers:

  • Scott Fisher & Sarah Upwright
  • Steve & Noah Meyers
  • Bryan Snyder
  • Chris Trimmer
  • David, Corwin, & Andrew Fair
  • Scott & Liz Percival
  • Philippe Hebert
  • Jason Cheng
  • John Weber
  • Rose Byington
  • Marshall Miller
  • Steve Lollis
First up was a six-player game of Alhambra. There are those who complain that there is not enough control in a 6-player game, but we found it fun. There was a lot of contention right from the start for the green and purple tiles, and walls were a big factor for most in the early scoring. In the end, it looked like this: Liz 52, Steve M. 59, Chris 61, Scott F, 64, David 67, Scott P 72.

While we were playing Alhambra, John (German team) arrived and began setting up his prized copy of Tour. He was joined in the Tour de France style racing game by Philippe (French team), Rose (USA), Jason (Italy) and Bryan (Holland). In Tour, each player controls a team of racers and competes to score best overall, meaning that you can have a racer win, but if another player does well in the finishing order, they can win the game by outscoring you. this is exactly what happened, with Rose (USA) winning on points despite not winning the race. John (Germany) was second, Philippe (France) third, followed by Bryan (Holland) and Jason (Italy), who suffered 3 miserable crashes, and was unable to recover.

After everyone had a shot at the chili Sarah had prepared, I induced Steve & Noah, Andrew, Scott P, and Marshall to join me in a game of Arkham Horror (with the Dunwich Horror expansion). We seemed to do OK as an investigatory group, but as the game progressed, we found we could not seal all the gates in time and we decided to face Hastur, the King in Yellow.

Fighting Hastur eventually drives you mad, but we all stood in the breach and gave it our best. Philippe (who had taken over for Noah when he had to leave) was the first to fall, and then Marshall, followed by Scott P and Andrew. Rose (playing for Steve) and I were left, and while she was dealing copious damage, I had more sanity, thanks to a rejuvenation spell I cast. In the end, we were all driven insane, and Hastur was unleashed on the world, but we had done 73 of 78 points of damage to him, so we only hope that there were others left in Arkham who could stop him...

Chris, Liz, Scott F., and Sarah played Zooloretto next. This time, they use all the pieces. :) the game is light, and decently fun, with many small but tough decisions guiding the game. Chris managed his park well, scoring 25 points, and Sarah was close behind (20). Liz scored 18, and Scott F 16. They played again after Steve L. arrived, and the scores for game 2 showed that Scott can learn: Scott F 25, Liz 23 Chris 22, Sarah 20, and Steve L. 19.

John had a prototype game and convinced Sarah, Liz, and Bryan to join him for "Gold Medal Figure Skating". I can't make out the notes too well, but it seems that Sarah performed an amazing quad axle John wiped out on a triple lutz, but Bryan's Artistic Merit was what won him the gold. John earned the silver, Sarah the bronze, and Liz the, I dunno, aluminum?

Jason joined Chris, Steve L, and Scott F for a game of Colosseum. They played with the "Intense Auctions" variant, and I heard a lot of trading going on. It seems that no one wants those ships, though... Jason proved the most entertaining arena owner, scoring 97 points, followed by Steve L (85), Chris (84) and Scott F (83). A very close game!

The final game to end was a great game of Age of Steam. We played on Ted Alspach's 1830's Pennsylvania map, which is usually pretty kind to first timers. It has some ways of making great amounts of money by shipping coal for double you locomotive length, or for double link value, depending on how you work it. In the end, experience paid off, and David (80) won, followed by Marshall (61), Philippe (56) and Rose (46). This was the first play for both Rose and philippe, and they both did very well in what can be a truly difficult, and cutthroat, game.

That is all, see you here in Middletown again next month on the last Friday, and before that, at Germantown and/or Damascus.

Good Gaming!
